Vacant Shops Issue in Town Centre addressed

KTCM this week revealed the latest attempt to tackle the blight of vacant shops in the town centre by dressing one of them in the High Street with a specially commissioned vinyl promoting the types of activities which both residents and visitors to the area can undertake in the area.

Promoting the concept of Kirkcaldy being “Fife's Family Friendly Destination”, the bright and bold vinyl depicts the fun activities people in the Kirkcaldy area have on their doorstep, both indoors and outdoors and some key events.

Sunil Varu, Kirkcaldy Town Centre Manager, stated,

“We have had many discussions with the non-domestic rates staff about what can and cannot be done with vacant shops in the town centre. Unfortunately, the range of solutions remains low and we believe this concept will improve local pride. People here are very fortunate in having such a diversity of activities available to them on their doorstep and I just wish they believed it themselves.

I would like to thank Colin Devine of Graham & Sibbald for allowing us to dress this particular window which I hope will be followed by others if we can get the keys to the properties. Ultimately, the aim is to ensure the vacant shops are occupied as soon as possible and is something we are also doing.”
