Scooby-Doo
to switch on Kirkcaldy’s Christmas Lights as the festive
fun begins!
Kirkcaldy
Town Centre Management (KTCM) this week revealed the identity
of the children’s character who will be switching on the
Christmas Lights in Kirkcaldy on Sunday 16th November 2008 –
SCOOBY-DOO!!
The
popular cartoon character was chosen ahead of many others because
of the wide appeal for all the family and is sure to make the
Switch On party Fife’s biggest once more. It will complement
the Mercat’s annual Reindeer Parade which is also aimed
at the family audience.
The
Switch On is one of several winter Festive Programme of events
which KTCM is staging to make festive shopping “fun”
for the public. These are all detailed in our annual “Cracker”
magazine 100,000 of which are being distributed throughout Fife
and north Edinburgh. Given the current difficult economic climate,
our aim is to make festive shopping fun in Kirkcaldy :
*
16th November : Fife’s largest Xmas Lights Switch On with
east of Scotland’s only reindeer parade while Scooby Doo
will indeed be a real attraction fro a fun-filled afternoon for
families
* 21st - 23rd November : Scotland’s only “Italian”
market which will once again draw crowds from around Fife and
beyond as a shopping experience with a difference which retailers
in the town centre can take advantage of
* 30th November : St. Andrews Day celebrations – a first
time event for Kirkcaldy
* 12th December : Girlie Day – the return of the UK’s
only “Girlie Day” promoting the fun factor of shopping
targetting women and “Treats For Girls” concept
* 19th December : Bloke’s Day – this is also the UK’s
only such event designed to inject the fun factor in helping men
with their festive shopping needs
Kirkcaldy
Town Centre Manager, Sunil Varu, stated,
“We
have pulled out all the stops to bring another international celebrity
Scooby-Doo to Kirkcaldy and I believe he will be immensely popular
with the children and people of all ages. There is a great sense
of anticipation about the Switch On this year as so many people
have been asking me who will perform the Switch On. On past performance,
I expect there to be a good crowd for what has always been a great
family day out as the festive season kicks off. All our other
events this year will offer something different but ultimately
be organised to draw crowds from around Fief and beyond.
The
“fun factor” will be a constant message to shoppers
that Kirkcaldy can indeed offer a “fun” shopping experience
and raise people’s awareness of Kirkcaldy as a festive retail
destination based on major events that would encourage a visit
to the town. 100,000 “Cracker” magazines are being
distributed to alert the people of Fife and beyond what Kirkcaldy
has to offer. Focussing on the shopping “experience”
throughout Kirkcaldy Town Centre, the magazine highlights not
only the depth of retail offer (top High Street names and many
local independent shops) but also many areas whose profiles need
a boost or which the general public do not readily acknowledge
exist such as the West End, Merchant’s Quarter, Hunter Street
and the “Cultural” Quarter.
