Kirkcaldy’s
Annual Sunday Fun Day – 6th August 2006
Kirkcaldy
is set for the second Annual Sunday Fun Day to take place in Kirkcaldy
High Street from 12 noon until 4pm, with a huge array of musical
and sporting talent which will entertain the anticipated crowds.
Local favourites
Kingdom FM, Crooked Jack and Jammin make a welcome return from
the inaugural Sunday Funday held in August 2005. Fife Free Press
in association with Raith Rover Football Club will be holding
a Keepie Uppie competition. They will be joined by 2 of the most
unusual and entertaining musical acts to come to Kirkcaldy:
o
The Ant Orkezdra : fresh from appearing in the
Stockton-on-Tees Festival this Saturday, this group of musicians
dressed in black and red giant ant costumes and on stilts will
take Kirkcaldy by storm. From the same company (Neighbourhood
Watch Stilts International) that provided the giant ostriches
and butterflies for the Vettriano exhibition launch, this is a
relatively new project - a 14-piece Brass and Percussion ensemble
on stilts. It is the ultimate festival marching band, with music
mixes of unusual interpretations of classics with original compositions
in Afrobeat, Hijaz, Salsa, Ska, Reggae, Cuban and New Orleans
styles.
o
Soss is a 5-piece band (traditional highland
pipes, drums, guitars and a saxophone) producing an eclectic sound
that takes elements from jazz, Indian, Scottish bagpiping, Celtic
and rock music. Soss have a certain pedigree, having played at
Oran Mor at Hogmanay, Celtic Connections 2006 and many theatres
and Scottish festivals.
Sunil Varu,
Kirkcaldy Town Centre Manager, commented:
“The
Sunday Fun Day is one of a number of high profile street events
KTCM has brought to Kirkcaldy in a bid to inject a real buzz into
town centre life. The Funday concept worked well last year and
this year the Town Centre will have a real party atmosphere for
the general public to enjoy.
There
is entertainment throughout the afternoon and the finale to the
event will be the Ant Orkezdra with their spectacular 45 minute
walkabout musical session through the High Street. I would urge
the public to support it, bring the family, the camera and have
fun!”
