Kirkcaldy BID projects underway with Easter Fun Festival
While the handover from Kirkcaldy Town Centre Management (KTCM) to the Kirkcaldy Business Improvement District (BID) continues, one of the first projects which the BID will deliver is a town centre event on Easter Saturday (3rd April).
The Easter event will be the first that the town centre has ever seen and one which will signal a serious intent on the part of the BID to deliver on its programme of marketing and events throughout the year. A summer festival of events is also already in the pipeline as the town centre begins its fightback against the retail park and other towns which have gained at the expense of the community’s major asset – Kirkcaldy Town Centre.
The accent will be very much on “fun” as the one day Easter Festival takes place on Easter Saturday and has been organized to coincide with the recent release of the Johnny Depp movie, “Alice in Wonderland”. The entertainment laid on from 11am until 4pm is designed to bring families into the town centre and keep them there for the day:
- 3 stage shows of the “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party” near Marks & Spencer
- 4 walkabouts by the Queen and Jack of Spades who will tour the town centre in the company of a cute Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny will also have some Easter surprises to give away to the children.
- A 3 hour FREE and interactive hat-making session for children where the accent will also be firmly on “fun” as a mock shop called “Harbuck & Futtock (Milliners of Distinction)” is created in a mini marquee in the High Street. The children can use their own imagination to create their own hats whether they by Easter bonnets or not and the shop “assistants” ill be on hand to help make their creations come to reality
Sunil Varu, Town Centre Manager, stated,
“This is only the start of the BID’s potential to bring a sense of pride back to the community as we celebrate a family friendly event designed to bring some fun for the shopping public. Many families will have seen the Johnny Depp movie, and now they have the chance to come and meet some of the characters. With the Vettriano Exhibition on show, we are also attempting to draw the expected thousands of visitors to the town from the Art Gallery to sample the many delights of the town centre.
We have also printed 5,000 leaflets to promote not only this event but also a number of other upcoming events. In the spirit of the optimism for the BID, it’s called “Spring into Summer” and a number of businesses have supported it with their own “special offers” which is an encouraging sign”
