KIRKCALDY’S CARIBBEAN STREET EVENT – SUNDAY 29TH JULY 2007

Kirkcaldy High Street will be filled with exotic sounds this Sunday afternoon as KTCM stage the second of its street events designed to give the town centre a real “buzz”.

The “Caribbean Carnival” follows hot on the heels of the popular “Samba Sunday” held in June and will be a concoction of music and sounds of Caribbean steel drums, African drums and one of the country’s top salsa bands.

Sunil Varu, Kirkcaldy Town Centre Manager, explained:

“Our theme for events this year is “The Dignity of Diversity” aiming to celebrate the diverse range of cultures of our society and yet another upbeat street event with an Afro-Caribbean theme will undoubtedly help. We have trawled the country to bring some top quality entertainment to Kirkcaldy which I hope the people of Kirkcaldy come out and support and enjoy.

With the expected good weather I expect many people to have their dancing shoes on and let their hair down a little as the beat of the rhythm will be infectious!”

Adding to the fun factor of the event, KTCM has also organised a children’s Treasure Hunt the entry forms for which can be picked up from town centre businesses, Council offices, Museum & Art Gallery, Theatre or on the day of the event.

Sunil added,

“We have 20 businesses displaying a specially commissioned poster of a palm tree which children, with help from their parents, have to list on the entry forms and the winner will win £50 worth of vouchers.

Working closely with the Maggies Centre, we have also secured some great raffle prizes from the town centre retailers and raffle tickets will be for sale at only £1 per ticket”

Elizabeth Adams, Maggie's Fife Fundraising Co-ordinator, said

"Caribbean Sunday sounds like a fantastic day out for all the family, I am sure every one will have lots of fun as well as raising money for a local charity. It always amazes the different ways people find to fundraise, we really appreciate the support the local community and companies give to Our Maggie's Centre".
